Frequently Asked Questions
Rules and laws about monitoring employee computers differ from country to country and from state to state. Cyclope fully complies with most of the countries’ legislation that is referring to the collection of personal data. This is because Cyclope DOES NOT collect personal data and is not covered by these laws.
In the US, for example, it is your right to monitor your employees at work, to monitor work-related tasks in work areas.
Keep in mind the following, and we recommend you to inform your employees about these:
Your company owns the entire IT infrastructure (both hardware, software, and communication), as well as the intellectual property of all business data, in any form – and it has the right to access, secure and protect these data and assets.
Privacy at work is limited – meaning that employees can have limited expectation of privacy, within the work environment. Also, the usage of company resources (cars, fixed / mobile phones, Internet connections, fax, printers, computers) can be monitored or supervised to determine operating parameters, optimize them or detect abuse.
There is an acceptable use policy (AUP) that explains how company resources can be used and whether they can be used for personal purposes. If you do not have such a policy, we recommend you define one.
There are restrictions on using certain applications, communication protocols, or equipment inside the company. Again, if you do not have such a policy, we recommend that you define one. Check out our detailed article about what is a work from home policy, for reference.
There could be consequences if employees are using the company’s resources in a way that violates the company’s policies.
No, Cyclope Employee Monitoring Software is a non-invasive solution that monitors employees’ activities on computers and does not spy on them. Cyclope records the activity and not the content of the visited websites, emails, or documents. It displays only the names of the sites or windows where the employee works (Word, Excel, AutoCAD, etc.) and the duration of each individual usage. No screenshots are taken!
We can say that Cyclope helps you track the activity on a computer, as a detailed phone invoice helps you track the numbers you have called.
For a better understanding, we can make an analogy with the call center monitoring system: although the recording of conversations is illegal, the monitoring of the numbers being called, the time, and the duration of the conversations is perfectly legal.
No, the application is fully featured, and during the 15 days of the trial you can evaluate every feature Cyclope has to offer.
For an easy evaluation, you can choose the Cloud Server installation and we will install and host the server-side in the cloud, without any costs from your side. The local installation is also available for trial, which means that both the server and the client application will be set up in your network.

We must emphasize that Cyclope only monitors the computer activity. All the other activities required to some of the employees are not monitored. But it is implied that your direct superior knows the exact nature of the tasks you are required to take care of at work and thus will take this into consideration when evaluating the reports that Cyclope has to offer.
Yes, you can choose which of the set reports you want to receive by email and also the reception frequency.
You can set up who is allowed to view the reports and the corresponding rights assigned. There are several roles available that provide different access levels:
- The Administrator account has absolute privileges on the interface.
- The Manager account is only allowed to access one or more departments’ statistics and has limited access to the Administration area.
- The Limited Manager account can only access the Statistics area and has no access to the Administration pages.
- The Employee account can only view one employee’s statistics and has no access to the Administration pages.
The application cannot be turned off “by accident” and it takes some above-average skills to kill it completely. But even so, the manager can easily spot on the reports the cases where logs are missing, the only condition is to access the Cyclope web interface or to have set at least the summary reports to be sent on email.
